Energy Storage Capacitors

Energy Storage Capacitors provide a convenient method of string electrical energy, which can be released, as required, for a very short duration of time under controlled conditions. Owing to their ability to release energy at extremely high rates and to produce high peak current and power under discharge conditions, these capacitors are extremely useful in applications like Plasma Physics, Subatomic Particle Research, Controlled Nuclear Fusion, Lasers, Impulse Generators, High Energy x-rays, Metal Forming etc.

Energy storage capacitors can be used individually or in Banks. The stored energy in joules in given by JOULES = 1/2 X C X V2  Where C = Capacitance in Microfarads V= Charging voltage in Kilovolts

The capacitor is designed to suit the waveform and duty cycle to which it will be subjected in service and the life it is expected to give.

The life expectancy of an Energy Storage Capacitor is a function of the electrical stress, the voltage reversal and the repetition rate of discharges.

To obtain maximum peak current, the Self-Inductance Value of the capacitor should be low. Specific designs are available from our range to meet this requirement.

 D. C. Capacitors

YESHA Manufactures DC Capacitors, since mid sixties, in wide ranges that solve the problems of various DC applications, such as thyristor protection, communication, filtering, bypass, coupling etc.

Besides the standard ranges, YESHA is uniquely placed to design Capacitors to suit to any specific application, including small order quantity.

Dielectric – The dielectric of YESHA DC Capacitors consists of all Polypropylene film or Mixed dielectric. ( PP + Paper ) or all paper depending on rating, application, and other design related parameters.

Housing – Small Capacitors of light duty are housed in soldered containers where as heavy duty and large units are housed in thick gauge MS containers, which are hermetically sealed. For special applications, tubular type insulated body is also used.

This Technology gives greater emphasis to lower losses, high operating efficiency,   reliability and Compact size.

Unique Advantage : Since the active dielectric in this design is polypropylene film, its Capacitance per unit volume and field strength are for greater and the dissipation factor far smaller than those of other mixed dielectric type capacitors.

Low Loss
 : These capacitors have a dielectric loss of less than about 0.2 watt per KVAr. This ensures low operating cost, low temperature rise and longer life of the capacitor.

Non – Pollutant : The use of non-polluting electric fluid is a further advantage from the environmental point of view, making redundant the stringent disposal regulations applicable to chlorinated diphenyl impregnated paper capacitors.

High Voltage Power Factor Improvement Capacitors

The introduction of High Voltage Mixed dielectric Capacitors was the outcome of many years of continuous research of M/s. General Electric Co. U.S.A. , under license from whom we started manufacturing these type of capacitors. Simultaneously continuous Research and Development at YESHA made it possible to introduce an All Polypropylene Capacitor For High Voltage Applications.

These are low loss Capacitors , impregnated with Non-PCB Oil, which is non-pollutant and non-toxic. The sizes are far more compact than that of conventional Paper Dielectric Capacitors, resulting in lighter weight and facilitating handling.

A wide range of Capacitor units available in voltage rating extending from 660 V to 12 KV enables YESHAto meet a broad array of applications. This flexibility is advantageous when series parallel combinations are required for high power bank arrangements.

Medium and Mains Frequency Water Cooled Capacitors


YESHA Medium Frequency Water Cooled Capacitors are designed for use in induction heating apparatus like Melting Furnace, Billet Heating, Forging and Induction Heating Equipment.

YESHA’s Water Cooled Capacitors are specially designed for the tropical conditions. For over 20 years we have supplied our High Voltage Medium Frequency and High Frequency Capacitors to major Original Equipment Manufacturers. Though a technical collaboration with WESTINGHOUSE, U.S.A., YESHA had incorporated latest international design factors to bring its’ Capacitors at par with world’s best products.


YESHA Medium Frequency Water Cooled Capacitors low loss with high dielectric strength. Depending on the rated application, they are constructed from the Polypropylene and/or Paper with Foil. The impregnate is non-PCB ( non-polluting and non-toxic )Dielectric oil. External case is generally aluminium. After winding the extended foil capacitor elements, one edge or both edges are soldered to a tinned copper tube, through which water is passed to dissipate the heat generated in the capacitor. Specially developed techniques are employed to ensure high electrical connectivity, thermal conductivity and mechanical strength between the foil and copper tube.

Surge Protection Capacitors For High Voltage Equipments

In practice, due to limitations in size and cost, rotating machines are not insulated to the same impulse levels as oil insulated apparatus of same voltage class. These machines when connected to system are subjected to surge voltage hazards. The major insulation of any machine is stressed by magnitude of the surge voltage to ground and is protected by a lightning arrester. The minor insulation of any machine is stressed by the rate of rise of Surge voltage, which can be limited by Surge Protection Capacitor.

For the above purpose, normally 0.1 micro Farad, 0.25 micro Farad or 0.5 micro Farad capacitance is used. Typical Voltage rating is 3.3 KV , 6.6 KV , 11 KV or 33 KV. Other ratings may be supplied on request.
